Child Support Changes

From 1 July 2008 all child support assessments will change.

Almost 2 million Australian parents are associated with Child Support and most are unaware of the changes. The changes can be summarised as follows:

1. Both parents' incomes will be considered in the assessment and no income of either parent will be exempted;
2. Assessments will be calculated using a specific child cost scale, depending on the childs age;
3. Each parents level of care will be considered;
4. Many child support assessments will increase;
5. Child Support Agency customers will be receiving their new assessments between 3 March 2008 and mid May 2008;
6. The new assessments will take effect from 1 July 2008.

You can get more information and access calculators from the Child Support Agency web site at http://www.csa.gov.au/.
